Bill Clinton is a lot of things, but dumb as a rock is not one of them. So the Iselin's do not remind me of the Clintons, nor the Obamas for that matter. "There are 57 communists ."
Now if you are looking for a President who was just t tool for a dubious (War in Iraq at any cost for one), if not evil, agenda who is consistently a bit inarticulate, coming over as a bit simplistic and ignorant despite two degrees from Ivy League universities, you boasted of what he did not read, who could not be trusted to speak in public without a prepared script (and often a device stuck in the back on his suit presumably connected to a well hidden speaker in his ear as shown is photographs from press conferences, yet not quite scaling the depths attained by Dan Quayle, that must require some sort of actual talent) we have George W. Bush. The question then is "Is Laura Bush up to the part of Eleanor Iselin?". It did not look like it from here. If she was in fact a some sort of operator planted to keep Dubyah on track when Dick Cheny wasn't around to do it, she was a great actress in disguising it, but not a very effective operator. So overall, I would say no, and even this more promising pair does not make the cut.

No, we'd hate Obama even if he were all white instead of half white.
Then again, he would never have gotten the Presidential nomination if he wasn't "officially black." That was the only reason he got the nom.

I was not in agreement with the Bush Administrations, and some of Mr. Clinton's as well..but I respected them as my President.because the office of President deserves the respect!

I have to agree about the Obamas! I say this from the standpoint of a 60+-year-old person who has been through a lot of presidents and their wives!

In a modern vein, how about Dr. Laura Schlessinger and her son Deryk? The super-patriot and the war-hero with skeletons in their closets. I'm surprised the remake didn't go this route, but the filmmakers would have been sued for sure

Johnny Iselin was obviously based - at least roughly - on Senator McCarthy.
Mrs. Iselin and her relationship with her husband bear no relationship at all to the real world Sen. McCarthy. McCarthy didn't even get married until he'd already been a Senator for years, and had already embarked on his anti-communist crusade.
The puppet-of-his-wife element was a fictional invention; as of course was the whole story, which - other than the anti-red grandstanding - had no similarity to Sen. McCarthy's life. -
