Just curious if there are any old movies dating from the 30's-60 like Carnival of Souls that deserve the same recognition. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Freaks, The Haunting and Caligari were all well funded movies by famous directors. If you want ultra low budget with little known directors that manage to be worth watching then "Night Tide" is a good choice. Poetic with just the right amount of chill. Not many others like that in the US.
There were some quality low-budget British horror movies make in the 50s/60s. -

I never noticed that, but now that you mention it. Repulsion is one of my favorite movies. I think that COS also had a big influence of George Romero.
