Good take on it and I was unaware of the non PC race angle.
You gave me a good laugh in suggesting those sound like the names of sports teams!
Yeah, those names don’t seem all that intimidating.
Not if the members are going to be doing sissy ballet moves.
I watched it once and I think that was enough.
Musicales aren’t really my thing and this one just drags on and on.
One thing I do like is the cameo by John Astin as the dance coordinator since I’m a fan of The Adams Family.

Thanks. I hate musicals and am only watching them for the sake of reviews. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered. I'm pretty sure they fell out of favor in the mid 60's as everybody got tired of them.

Forgot to tell you, it was Montgomery Clift who came up with the idea of West Side Story. And the rest was history.

It’s a “modern” musical take on Romeo and Juliete. The music was wonderful ((Leonard Bernstein), and the dance numbers joyful to watch.
That being said, both Beymer and Wood were woefully miscast.
If you can’t say something nice, say something clever but devastating. -

They tried to get Elvis, but no dice.
