You seriously have to not know what a great movie this is to rate it low. This movie is definitely a top 250 and one of the greatest movies of all time. Scorsese himself has even said this is the greatest epic in cinema history.

Tastes change. It's a pure romance in an age of irony. I'm not surprised that today's viewers don't rate it very highly.

Tastes do change. For example showing the same 1000 extras riding thru shot after shot after shot got more than a little boring to this 21st century viewer. The ending was brillant - it just needed to come at the 130 minute mark instead of the 180 minute mark.

For such a supposedly great film, i have never heard of El Cid. But i just turned my tv on and this film was an hour in, and i was thinking it looks like it would be a good film, shame i missed the first hour so i will watch the other channel instead, and kangaroo jack was just starting which was pretty good.

Probably political correctness in action. You don't see the 1986 comedy "Soul Man" on tv much either.
