i agree its a great film and great how it is, especially with the time it was made. Also, i know that trends these days would mean a remake would have to be a gorefest.
    BUT
Guillermo Del Toro? i think he could get the balance of atmosphere, creepiness, nastiness and beauty this film has.
i base this on pans labyrinth and my imagination
anyone agree? or think of other directors who wouldnt ruin it?
david lynch would do something interesting with it but wouldnt be anythin like the original.

      "Do justice". LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
If you mean that remaking a films means reincarnating it in a different form and removing the original you are an idiot. The remake should always be a stand alone film and only try to be better!

I would be sad to see Del Toro remaking this. I find his use of visuals and music too rich and full-bodied for this story.
It really doesn't need to be remade, but if it was, I'd be more interested in what Michael Haneke would do with it. He could certainly handle the coldness and inhumanity.

I think Pedro Almodovar got there before del Toro or Haneke.
Keep silent unless what you are going to say is more important than silence.

Um. Michael Bay. The answer is staring us right in the face.
Actually, I think that a director who isn't known for horror and spectacle would be better. A remake director should be someone who is good at directing actors so that the story could focus on the ensemble cast. There are really no visuals in this that require these types of directors. Get someone like Polanski who has directed character-driven horror beforeRepulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Ninth Gate, Ghost Writer. All examples of how this story should be handled.
