scariest shot

The scariest part is when they took the "face motions with one hand as if removing his own face .. off!*
Nothing in that movie compares to the bonus dvd documentary of the french slaughterhouse. Maybe it's just that I didn't grow up hunting, working on a cattle farm, or IN a slaughterhouse. That HORSE!!!! uhg. Not right. -

That documentary was extremely hard to watch, especially because I had no idea what I was in for when I watched the bonus features.
As for the revelation of the "face," part of what makes it terrifying is it has such tremendous buildup. We didn't need a lot of gory makeup to be shocked, because the idea in itself was shocking enough. -

I'm a firm believer in 'less is more.' I think it was brilliant of the director to only show the face blurred. It lets a person imagine how horrible it must really look. If a remake was ever done (SPARE ME, PLEASE!) there would be nothing left to the imagination and all the gore would be out there.

Jess Franco did a remake.

The documentary is included in the bonus features of the Criterion DVD. Before he made this film, the director made a documentary about French slaughterhouses. It opens with with a horse's head being severed. It's quite shocking and abrupt, especially if you were expecting a feature on this film (if you didn't read the menu closely or your French isn't that good).

Oooh! I was wondering what that was. I thought it might have been a trailer, so I didn't bother viewing it. Hm..kinda curious to see it now.

Yes, it's really abrupt and shocking, especially if you don't know what you're in for.
Generally bonus features are related to the film, but this is an earlier documentary by the director. It's certainly worthwhile including it in the Criterion DVD for fans of the director, but it's not otherwise related to "Eyes Without a Face."
I watched some of the documentary, but I just couldn't stomach it after a bit. But I suspect the worst part was the beheading of the horse, which is right at the beginning of the film. It's hard for me to imagine the rest being more gruesome, but I guess it's possible. -

The body being dragged after slumping facelessly in the rear of the car is pretty creepy.
I was most impressed by the anonymous stunt lady that allowed herself to be dragged in that way with bare feet across the rough road surface - that must have played havoc with her pedicure!
Come on lads, bags of swank!
