Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Eyes Without a Face

I really liked this movie, but I did have a question about something that got mentioned several times.
Every time the police discuss the women who have been found disfigured (who we know have been the sources of the previous faces that the doctor keeps trying to transplant onto his daughter's face), the police always mention that what the dead women all have in common is blue eyes. This is really stressedI think it gets mentioned at least three times before the movie is over, if not four. Except that another thing that gets established very early is that when Christiane had her accident, the only things on her face that
    weren't
damaged were her eyes. This fact is such a prominent part of the story that the whole movie is named after it!
So my question is: why would all the kidnapped women need to have the same eye color? And if they don't, why is the movie so full of dialogue telling the audience that they do?

The doctor could probably better relate to how the face would appear on his daughter's head if the colour of the eyes were identical.
I don't think it connects strongly with the movie's overall subtext of revolt against parental values and superficial beauty values.
