When Christiane stabs her with the scalpel near the end, would that have actually been fatal? That part really annoyed me. I mean, she literally died in less than 10 seconds. There was barely a trace of blood. Don't think so

She has to hit the place where the mother's face is operated - it a symbol gesture.

If she hit the carotid artery, and I think she did, that would have caused immediate lack (not total lack, obviously, since the carotid on the other side was not affected) of blood to the brain and she would have fainted very quickly. She faints and then would have died without regaining consciousness.
