Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Night of the Blood Beast

I am pretty impressed with the trickery and complexity of this film.
Night of the Blood Beast indeed. Who is the "blood beast?" I'll tell youit is man. Humanity is actually the "blood beast" in this film.
They throw expectations on its head and make the disgusting looking alien to be the actual victim and hero of the film while the traditional victims and heroes end up being the true monsters.
Watch this again and see it unfold this way. There is far more going on in this film than cheesy lines and poor effects.
The alien wishes to save us even as it dies a horrible burning death. This perhaps is ultimately the most important lesson ever taught in film. Humanity will continue to scorn and reject its illogical avenues of salvation and that will ensure our destruction. Is it destiny to allow this to pass or do we actually wake up from the recurring nightmare and do something to break out of the cycle before it is too late?
This now makes the Top Ten Films of 1958 list.

Actually the ending was left ambiguous as to whether the alien or Johnny was right.
"Look, it scary big brown flying poo-poo!"

Actually, I believe the true underlying theme of the film is that it's possible to name all of your major characters "Steve" and still turn out a steaming pile of puss.
