Did Ben leave and take Clara with him, or did he stay in Frenchman's Bend with the Varner's?
Also was the little speech about his father at the end his confession that he really was a barn burner?

I'd rather think they both went away together.
If they hadn't ended up together I would have had more respect for the movie. I have to look for Faulkner's ending now.

I think he stayed based on Will's reaction when he heard them and he stopped packing when Clara comes in.
