I recently saw an episode that Robert Altman directed, I don't know what the title was, but the story featured Gunn investigating another private detective (whose name I forget) who is hired by the mob to help cover up a murder (SPOILER: in the end the detective turned out to be a good guy). It wasn't too interesting, but then again I wasn't really looking for much because I only learned at the very end during the credits that Altman was the episode's director.
