One thing that I came up with (not listed) is that the real budget for VERA CRUZ was $3,000,000 and the fictional gold shipment in the film is $3,000,000.
I think the similarity was just a coincidence, but it qualifies as trivia.

Years ago I once read where Gary Cooper said he didn't want to make another movie in Mexico again because his two prior movies (Blowing in the Wind and Garden of Evil) were filmed there. He told Lancaster he would do it for a million dollars which was an astonishing salary at that time. Because they wanted another big name star they agreed to it and they were glad they did because this movie made big money. Can anyone confirm this for sure?

This was the third straight time for Gary Cooper to make a movie in Mexico. The first one was Blowing Wild in 1953 and Garden of Evil made in 1954 followed by Vera Cruz in 1954. They Came to Cordura in 1959 was filmed in Mexico so Gary Cooper made 4 movies in Mexico that I know of.
