Wow, I lived on the Presidio of Monterrey from August 1974 through May 1975 and again from May 1976 through February 1977. I remember some of these places, having shopped at a hardware store right next to the railroad crossing and I think I ate at Alonzo's a few times. The interior does not look at all familiar, but it is probably on a sound stage and any similarity with the actual restaurant interior is purely accidental. It's gone now.

Actually getting to see what Cannery Row looked like when it was still up and running was very interesting.

I can't say about the 1950's. I don't think any of the canneries were operating when I was there and Cannery Row was suffering. One of the buildings, 812 Cannery Row, was turned into a movie theater, named with great (or zero) imagination, "The 812 Theater." They had no traditional seating, but cushions and bean bag chairs scattered around a carpeted floor. That block of Cannery Row is the south end of the Monterey Aquarium now. They showed a lot of 'art' and foreign films.
The same company owned 'The Dream Theater.' That was an old, but well restored theater on Pacific Grove and Prescott Avenue. The map shows it as a strip mall today. I think much of what existed in the 1950's was still there in 1974. Economically, the cities on the bay are doing much better now, but one consequence is that much of what was there outside of the Presidio is gone.

Dannie are you talking the town in Central California by Carmel (Monterey) or the town in
          Mejico?
(Monterrey)? In any case Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel are some of my favorite places for me & my
          familia
to visit for short (and not so short) day trips. Beware the ground squirrels at Lovers Point!

I am talking the town in California, the original state capital. I blame my spelling challenge on the backbone here. It identifies Monterey with one 'r' as a spelling error.
