This is a really great tense noir thriller.
First of all, the script is tight and the dialogue is fantastic. The characters are all extremely well written, cast and performed. This is Jack Palance's feature film debut. Honestly, I don't think Zero Mostel had to act afraid of Palance's character, I think he was just afraid of Palance. He is rough and mean and cunning and ruthless and he is absolutely perfect in this movie. Also, I really like the scenes with Richard Widmark and Barbara Bel Geddes.
Watching this in 2021, you will probably notice that some key plot points have some pretty definite parallels with current events. Kinda goes to show you how ahead of it's time this movie really was.
Anyway, this movie is great. It's shot and edited really well. Check it out if you can. I happened across the blu-ray the other day at the movie store.
