Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man

I've watched this movie countless times (grew up with it in the '60s on Creature Features), but it was only recently while watching the DVD for the 100th time that I noticed that the graverobber that got grabbed by the Wolfman in the crypt was a hunchback! Amazing that I never noticed before. Seems like someone at Universal must have always thought a hunchback was scary or something. Anyway, probably the best opening scene of any Universal classic horror movie. Too bad the rest of the picture isn't as good, but it's still my favorite of the 1940s Universal horrors.

I love the opening scene in this movie. It's one of my all time favorites! But I also didn't notice that before.

Cyril Delevanti, who played the shorter graverobber, would later appear as Nonno in THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA with Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, and Ava Gardner. The taller graverobber was played by the same actor who was one of Larry Talbot's victims in THE WOLF MAN.
