Watch it. It's coming up on Turner Classic Movies in a couple of weeks (sorry, don't remember the exact date).

Yes, Moll forgave his worse enemy and gave his life. I thought that all the characters had their faults that they suffered the consequences for, but at the end they saw that they were not living a "spiritual" life. The Hessler character had the chance to repent, but instead he chose to live a "materialistic" life and because we were so close to WWII, Lukas modeled the character after Hitler, but it represents anyone who turns his back to doing the right thing. The rest of the cast showed their flaws and repented.Joan Crawford was never lovlier and shows great depth. Even Clark Gable realized he could have escaped, but decided to repent in order to have "everlasting" life.

I had never heard of it and was amazed at how good it was. I wish it could be ordered in DVD but all I could find was an amazon vhs for $40, more than I can pay.
