How does a large public school building in NYC have only one entrance?

Curious plot point in the movie was how that big 3-story public school building in New York City was specifically noted as having only one entrance. So… no other side or back doors for use as fire exits, or service/delivery needs? That makes no sense from a safety or architectural design standpoint.

Sloppy writing. If a building is so old that it doesn't possess fire exits? Then fire exits are inserted into the structure, by modern contractors. Or else, the building is not allowed to open. Certainly no K-12 school building would be permitted only one means of ingress/egress.
