Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — The Invisible Man

I have not seen this movie for many years, in fact it was sometime in the 1960's that I last saw it and there is still one scene that sticks out in my mind after all these years.
It's where you see a older lady trying to move quickly down the street. She's yelling "Help!" " I am being chased by a pair of pants!" A second later you see a pair of pants come skipping down the street and the invisible man is singing "Here we go gathering nuts in May, nuts in May, nuts in May." At the time I thought it was funny.
I hope I got the details right. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong because my memory sometimes is not as good as it should be.

That WAS meant to be funny! James Whale loved to inject humor into his movies.
There is a story about James Whale sitting in a movie theater, watching either this movie, Frankenstien, or Bride of Frankenstein, and a woman was grumbling to a friiend as about the 'bad' picture. Whale, without identifying himself said to her. "If you don't like this movie, you can damn well leave!"
As for me, it's Una O'Connor, her screams are wonderful.
