R.S. Summary
:
After years as a rock eccentric, Eno said goodbye to pop-song form with this album of pure synthetic beauty, mixing lush electronics ("Becalmed") with acoustic instruments ("Everything Merges With the Night") to cast a truly hypnotic spell.
My Vote
: Colossal! Meraviglioso! Mirabilis! A surprising entry, but a deserving one and I've grown to love every minute of it. These arrangements are frequently described as "stripped-down", but to me it sounds so rich, layered, and sumptuous as to defy such a label. The melodic and rhythmic virtuosity here is like painting with sound and evokes great imagery. The spare lyrics are less bizarre than in his previous work and more gently whimsical, appropriate for the dreamlike tone of these pieces. Even most folks I know who dislike ambient music seem to appreciate this on some level. It's also the best thing Phil Collins has ever played on, by my troth.

Yea, though I thought it was a bit of a step down from the likes of Warm Jets and Tiger Mountain.
