Not really. They're related but not "technically the same thing." Taxonomically, the Asian buffalo is classified as
Bubalus bubalis
whereas the cow is classified as
Bos taurus
But forget about all this taxonomic quibbling.
Cow meat tastes far better than buffalo meat.
