Rock-Paper-Scissors - This Strategy will increase your Chances
    Anyone playing
    Rock-Paper-Scissors
    wants to win.
Researchers investigated which strategy increases your chances of winning.
    Playing
    Rock-Paper-Scissors
to reach a fair decision? That's so yesterday!
With the insights of cognitive scientists, you can increase your chances of winning.
EEG methods discovered what happens in the brain during gameplay and how people make their decisions.
    Real-Time Analysis
How does our brain work when we play
    Rock-Paper-Scissors
? How do we make our decisions?
Australian researchers analyzed the EEG data of 62 participants during a total of 15,000 rounds of play.
The unique aspect of this study: The data of two opponents were collected simultaneously during gameplay.
    This method is called hyperscanning.
While the countdown is on, players in
    Rock-Paper-Scissors
must choose one of three gestures.
Especially when multiple rounds are played, participants usually weigh up which choice their opponent or they themselves will make, based on previous decisions. This was shown by the EEG data from the study.
This very weighing and deliberation is the problem when trying to win, the researchers believe.
    Chance wins!
According to their game theory, completely random, unpredictable decisions are the key to winning. In other words, the best strategy is to have no strategy at all.
But that's precisely what we find so difficult. We can't ignore that we're analyzing our opponent and considering what move they'll make next. Researchers also found that our own previous choices always influence the subsequent decision-making process.
The EEG data show that players who remembered the last round played, performed particularly poorly.
    This confirms the game theory.
    Most popular Strategies
The data from the study also show that of the three possible gestures, rock was clearly preferred.
This was followed by paper, then scissors.
Furthermore, players tended to choose a different gesture in the next round than the one
they previously selected. Repeating the same gesture was thus avoided.
How to increase your Chances of Winning
So what does this mean for your next match?
Focus on these three points if you want to beat your opponent:
🤯 Don't have a strategy. Be as unpredictable as possible. Ignore previous rounds and gestures.
🪨 There's a high probability your opponents will choose rock.
🔁 Your opponents will less likely repeat their gesture.

We called this game Ching-Chang-Chong and
    'counted'
    like that.
