It's about a bunch of desert ants in Arizona who acquire intelligence, and began to attack humans. It's creepy, surrealistic, trippy and intelligent. It was directed by Saul Bass. Unfortunately this is the only movie he ever made. It's a bit on the slow side, but fascinating. And the film sequences of the ants are the best I've ever seen. It also has a trippy soundtrack.
    It reminded me of
    The Hellstrom Chronicle
    and
    The Andromeda Strain,
both from 1971, and even of
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    from 1968.
I watched it here on FB, but unfortunately, the original ending was cut from the film. I saw part of the original ending on a You Tube video which some dude shot in a cinema.
    I give it a 7.8.

The Hellstrom Chronicle really opened my mind to the amazing creatures that insects are. They're true survivors!
I've seen The Andromeda Strain too, and you're right, this ant movie is a weird combination of those two movies.

        Yes,
        The Hellstrom Chronicle
really opened my mind also. Another fascinating, but largely ignored Sci-Fi classic.
        It even reminded me of
        2001.
The original ending which was cut, showed a weird sort of combining of humans and ants in a new relationship/species. Kind of like the Star Child.

I would like to see that ending. I'd better check it out right now.

I found it and it should never have been cut from the movie. It's brilliant!

                Wow!
                Thanks,
You are correct, it IS brilliant, very 2001 ish. Those knuckleheads probably cut it because they figured the great unwashed masses would not understand or like it. They were correct, of course, but
they should NOT have cut it!
                Damn the unwashed masses!
Thanks so much for digging that up! I have now seen
                the entire film!

                      Thanks. The film was
                      brilliant,
and I just posted my review.

Curious that the "Antman" suit in the marvel movie looks like the bio suits worn here and also features ant intelligence.
