Anyone here do this?
I've never seen The Lord of the Flies (either), but am more intrigued by the remake.
Partly because it's in color, partly because the original is 13 years my senior.
So it would seem that I am going to do exactly what I am talking about.
Not sure if I've ever done this before.
Your sarcasm has driven me to idiocy. -

i don't remember if I watched a remake deliberately before the original but I do recall watching a remake of something not knowing there was an original.I can't think of what movie it was though.

All the time, if the cast etc is more interesting for me in the remake why watch the original when usually they tell the same story so I'm probably not gonna enjoy watching them back to back anyways.

Well that's subjective, I find that many times the movie you prefer is the one you watch first and not necessarily the movie that came first.
Not always of course, but yes if I'm interested in watching for instance
Dawn Of The Dead 2004
because Ving Rhames and Mekhi Phifer are both in it (2 of my fav actors) I'm not gonna go watch the original before that one, and I didn't, and I still haven't seen the OG DOAD.

I saw the 1982 remake of "Cat People" before the original (Nastassia Kinski running around naked half the movie might have had something to do with that). I also have seen the American/English-language remakes of a lot of foreign movies before the original, like "The Ring" and "Mirrors". It's the same reason I sometimes see a movie before reading a book. It's easier to watch a movie first and decide if you'll like the book enough to devote the time to it, and it's easier sometimes to watch an English-language remake of a movie first before you dive into the foreign subtitled one.
They've yet to make a very good version of "Lord of the Flies". . .

Considering most remakes of Asian horror movies are godawful I don't think it makes sense to decide if you're gonna watch the originals or not based on how much you liked the remakes.
CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre. -

The Crazies is another!
except in this case I knew about the original but had no interest to watch it until after the remake
