You know, there seems to be something odd about most movies made in the 70's, and this one is no exception. It's not only odd, it's slow and rambling, and doesn't seem to have much of a point. Or maybe the point was that all men are assholes, since the two main characters certainly are. One reviewer mentioned
"toxic masculinity"
, but that was dreamed up by radical feminists decades
after
this movie came out. So who knows?
Elaine May directed it. Right after this flop, she directed
Ishtar,
one of the biggest and most expensive bombs in Hollyweird history. And then she was pretty much finished as a director. Karma?
5/10.

And I am probably one of the few that liked Ishtar and actually found it entertaining and their really bad songs were hilarious! -

I don't think there is a pitch meaning for that film. If I find one, I will definitely post it. And yes, some people actually enjoyed Ishtar. There's no accounting for taste.

They tend to do mostly recent movies.
If it is anything older than 10 years it is Star Wars/Trek or TV shows.

I suggest that you go here to read the backstory on it which may explain why what you watched was so bad.
There was a lot of controversy between May and Paramount, the studio who supported the movie.

I saw it when I was like 13 or 14
back when something like this would actually be
shown on over the air TV at like 1am.
I liked it, maybe just because it was so
different from the usual Spielbergian
****e being foisted on us.
Maybe I wouldn't be quite as impressed today.

John Cassevettes is always a plus IMO.
One guy is like lying to and ****ing over
and setting up the other guy thru the
whole thing, right ?
If I'm not mistaken Cassevettes is the schmuck.
As in The Killers which I saw around the same
time under the same circumstances which I'd
still call one of my top 10 or 15 movies.

1964
version, rated 7.0 on imdb, or the
(apparently superior)
1946
version which is rated 7.8?
