Some people may refer to "Dynasty" as a serial (though I would think they are in the minority as "serial" is a bit archaic), but many people call it a soap opera as well.
More importantly, people are going to know what I mean when I say "soap opera", so I don't know why you would have a problem with me or anybody else calling "Dynasty" or "Dallas" a soap opera. Your insistence on saying that "serial" is correct and "soap opera" isn't is not only wrong, but also seems a bit precious. Clarity of communication is the most important thing here.

I call the night time ones
serials
because that's what the networks and the shows themselves refer themselves as. The networks and shows DON'T refer to them as soap operas. That's RESERVED for the daytime ones.
