Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Justin Bieber

    anahi_695 — 12 years ago(June 24, 2013 03:21 PM)

I was wondering what people thought about the difference between teen music from the late 90's and today's teen pop idols.
Back in the 90's we had the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Westlife, 5ive, Spice Girls. Now there is One Direction, The Wanted, Big Time rush, Little Mix and of course, Bieber.
Back in the 90's there were Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Now there is Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato.
Back in the 90's there was a kind of pop/rock style very well known and defined and now it's just dance music everywhere.
Do you think the (teen) music from back then was better or that it has improved in any way?

You didn't grow up in the 90's to say so. I'm sure you're a teenager that was born in the late 90's.

Are you nuts? We had better things in the 90s, better TV shows and better music.

Let me guess, because Justin Bieber was not around at that time. Screw you.

I'd say some difference thru the last 25 years but there is a vast difference [ESPECIALLY in establishing the bubblegum/"wholesome" style of the genre] from anythin5b4g since the 80s [Spice Girls and Debbie Gibson notwithstanding, maybe it's a female thing] and the "groovy, outta sight" idols of my generation [1960s-70s]. I was sick of looking at Michael Jackson in the 80s-90s in National Enquirer, and the later stars and now worst Justin BieberI grew up not in the 1990s but in the groovy 70sso the Monkees type stuff [by stars wiotth no scandals, save David Cassidy [Partridges] Rolling Stone nudie shot]
is a bigger difference for me thru anything from 1980s on and it only got worse.
I could do mwithout half of the eighties songs, too trendy for my tastes.

The music from the late 90's and early '00s were MUCH better than today's music. On top of that, the artists back then were good performers/total package artists, unlike most of today.
                            Let's compare, shall we:
                            Late 90s artists:
                            Britney (in her prime)-
                            Christina-
                            N'Sync-
                            Brandy-
                            Compared to today's pop artists:
                            Selena-
                            Taylor-
                            Ke$ha-
                            Katy-
I will say that Bieber isn't as bad as most think he is. He's actually a decent artist, good performer, and makes better music than most of his peers. Not a fan of his ex-girlfriend or One Direction but Demi Lovato is decent too.

Doing one on one comparisons, how do you think it would work out?
                              Something like:
Britney/Bieber-Selena (Not even talking about Britney&JUSTIN/Bieber&Selena)

                              Ke$ha/Pink
                              Little Mix/Spice Girls
                              ????

The artists in the 90s were Much better than MOST of today's music you meant..Taylor is a conservative religious personTaylor and some of tofay's other artists (can't remember who exactly at the moment though) were infleunced by them. What about Backstreet Boys's gang banging or New Kids's thug. Many of today's artists (who, after all, were poushed by their managers to do the music they do) and fans WOULD agree. Beiber./.yecDue to the 90s music fans being still yuong, they're played,..tosday's pop artists are religious, so the are good role modelsI can't stand Bieber due to some of his religious stances or rape promoting. How do you feel about some 90s arts and 80s ones like Michael jackson or Nick Carter going around like rappers?

Pop music has never been good. Sure it's more manufactured now but that doesn't make it better or worse, it's still designed for the masses and will eventually take a career to the county fair.

I was in my teens in the 1990's and i could not answer your question i am afraid because already then i listened to real music not product music.
From what i do remember yes it was better.
