I was expecting a soft G to sound like Jillian. Gillian with a hard G sounds like a strange first name for a girl.

I thought it was unusual too. Is it an American thing? It sounds too much like Gilligan.

I've just been listening to her DVD commentary for 30 Rock and Donald Glover called her Gill -ian and I thought that he'd mispronounced it as I've never heard it pronounced like that before, but I guess that's how she says it.

Yes. I came here to say the same thing after hearing Alison Brie pronounce her name as such on Craig Ferguson. I've never heard such a name before in my life.

I do think it's less usual too. Yet that's also how the wildly popular writer Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl, Dark Places) pronounces her name too.
Maybe the Hard G Gillians are on to something
