It's always been a given that a lot of this show isn't candid, but after watching the 2009 Christmas episode, I wonder even more. It was released 2 or 3 days BEFORE Christmas, but they were shown opening presents, having Christmas dinner, yadda yadda. I understand the point of that, but now it makes me wonder if more of it is fake than I thought.

I think it's a lot more real then some other 'reality' shows, and as for the xmas special, that could of been done to make things a bit easier on the cast and crew..privicy for the family and a clear christmas for the crew..

When it comes down to the actual Bounty Hunting I'd safely say the show is 100% real. However the side stories that are often intertwined to "make the episodes more distinct" are probably slightly5b4 set up probably at the insistence of producers to give the show more of that stereotypical reality show flow.
