Which really isn't an insult, because who is?
Jennifer is an attractive woman with a figure I've liked since we first saw her, and she is a good singer - but NOBODY sings I will always love you the way Whitney did. Nobody.
It must be a little bit humiliating for someone like Dolly Parton to have someone come along and belt her song out of the park.
As much as I hate junkies far more than 5b4any of you can imagine, and I scorn Whitney for destroying her voice with years of drug abuse - Whitney had one of the best voices of anyone - EVER.
Which really doesn't take away from Jennifer.
But listening to Jennifer at the Grammys just pointed out how unique Whitney was. -

Agreed. That performance was WAY better than last night.
Cigarettes yes, but crack can't be good for the voice - and she has been reported to be broke recently, but she had a 100 million dollar fortune. Did that ALL go up her nose? -

Many commenters there pointed out that JH was giving tribute to WH - not trying to outshine her.
The video above is an excellent tribute to WH - sure to bring a tear to your eye. -

Quite the opposite, Dolly was thrilled with Whitney's rendition of her song. She sees herself as a songwriter, so if someone performs her song and gets it the fame like Whitney did with "I Will Always Love You", that's more in the bank for Dolly(through royalties), and she gets more fame for being a hell of a songwriter. -

Yea, while channel surfing I caught an interview with her a few years ago, and that was one of the things she was asked about and I was very surprised at her response. At the time I thought the same as you, that she must have been pissed about her song being "hijacked" by Whitney, but she was very positive and happy about it

I think it's very easy to be cool about it if your main talent and joy is the writing of the songs. She might almost feel a mother-like pride in Whitney's accomplishment.
I guess I was just feeling less sypmathetic to Dolly's point of view because of how I feel about her because of what she has done to her face - now that is tragic. (I saw an interview with her recently - and her face ALMOST moved - almost.) -

It's barely 24 hours after she died.. and people wanted Jennifer to go all out and belt out a perfect rendition of the song? What if she had done exactly that? Or even did a better mind blowing performance.. it would have seemed out of place and almost insulting because it would have been about Jennifer not Whitney.
She clearly seemed sad while singing it and holding back.. Anyone hating on Hudson should realize she'b68s a good person not some egotistical Hollywood person. I'm glad she didn't even attempt to outshine Whitney.. She could have done it, but it would have been wrong to even try.

Her repeated off-key notes had nothing to do with being upset. She wasn't that overcome with emotion on stage anyway. It is just a horrible rendition.
Check out Diana Ross singing just after she got the news of Marvin Gaye's death. Her tears cause her voice to falter but she's never off-key. No one expects Jennifer to be Whitney, but at least do Ms. Houston the honor of singing in key. -

I thought Marvin Gaye didn't get along with Diana Ross. I read a long time ago that they were supposed to record an album together, but Diana Ross didn't want Marvin smoking around her and he refused to stop. In the end I think they recorded in the studio seperately.
Anyway, on Miss Hudson. I have to agree with the OP. She is no Whitney Houston and I didn't like her version of I Will Always Love You. I don't think she can even come close to Whitney as a singer. But like Whitney, I think she is very pretty. -

Yep she held back per his request out of respect for Whitney. She is totally capable of blowing that song completely out of the water. Jennifer STILL sounded amazing even holding back, now that's talent.
