She was absolutely terrible at the Oscars last night. Constant screaming showing no restrain or control of her voice. She is just another manufactured American Idol reject who thinks that singing equates to screaming the hell out of your lungs.
It doesn't. All of the other singers were fantastic but this scream queen stuck out like a sore thumb 2000amist a sea of great performances by truly good singers. -

OMG finally someone who agrees with me! I posted the same thing on the Oscar board, and I can't believe how many people say "she can sing" or "she is amazing". Adele, cast of Les Mis, Norah Jones, Barbra S. and Shirley Bassey were all truly amazing, and sang their hearts out. Jennifer Hudson screamed her heart out. We voted her off Idol for a reason

Indeed, I don't see how anyone can say that she sang well last night or that her performance was amazing. She was painful to listen to, she has no class whatsoever. Thankfully the performance of the cast of Les Mis that came right after completelly eclipsed her screamfest.

Besides the screaming, when she starts off the song(which is really talking)you can't understand what she is saying.
The song is telling a story, the way Hudson does it you have no idea what she is saying or what the song is supposed to be about.
Jennifer Holiday who was in the original Broadway cast does it 100 times better. -

I think Adele was the best. Bassey and Streisand have apparently lost her voice and were out of tune too many times not to notice.
I posted this thing on the Oscar thread. Got the same reaction. Apparently some people are deaf. -

Is it only when Jennifer sings this song though? And I am telling you?
My biggest problem with THIS song is when she starts shes already at such a high range that by the time she gets to the climax of the song, it sounds like she's almost screaming. It's like where or how are you gonna get to the BIG notes nowww if you've left yourself no room to even breath?! Why START the song at such a high range?!!
AIATY is a BIG BIG song. She has to break it down a bit more I think.
I don't get it this is like singing 101. I'm sure Jennifer knows this. Maybe she got caught up in the excitement of the Oscars. I dunnoit wasn't good tho and hard to watch.
Having said this, I don't think she does it as much with other songs.
Check out this beautiful performance of hers which is nicely controlled and well within her range.

I just think that when Jennifer takes her time, she's flawless. I think she's been excellent on Smash. I've been watching only because she's on it. -

I agree this is a big song, but the singer should start off slow and build up to the endthe way it was done on Broadway.
She starts off shouting out the words and then screams the restit was just awful. -

She just don't bring anything new to the table, and as others have said here, all she does is scream, but she has nothing new we havent heard before.
She reminds me of a show called Married People (1990) that starred Barbara Montgomery, who was one of the gospel singing sisters on Amen, with Sherman Hemsley and Clifton Davis.
Della Reese guested on an episode of Married People and she and Barbara Montgomery were suddenly in a wailing duel, making the noises that Jennifer does, but it was funny with those two, but Jennifer acts like she is delivering something.
