How have I never heard this before. I'm an idiot!
On the sides of the box of aluminum foil rolls are perforated tabs that you are supposed to push inward to keep the roll from coming out of the box when you're pulling out a sheet of it. That has annoyed me for years! -

Here is another trick…
If you are ever in a jam, say in an underwater shark cage that the bad guys have put you in to drown you, you can rip out the sharp edge and saw through the bars.
Which is why I always be sure to carry a box of alum. foil with me wherever I go.
