Which blockbuster films has Saoirse missed out on or turned down ?

none of those films (in my opinion) would've heightened her career much more than the ones she decided to do.

Her talent will shine and eventually the right project will come, just have patience.
I am not in the least impatient and her talents have already shone brightly many times, most notably in 'Death Defying Acts' (2007).
My point I suppose if I have to spell it out is that in my opinion Saoirse was ill advised to turn down 'The Hobbit' films because they were as close to sure bet hits as you can get in the film making business and that is a rarity. Instead she chose to roll the dice on doing the half dozen films she did do and none of them were a hit.
Now you can argue that 'The Hobbit' films were mindless popcorn movies and to an extent that is true, but if Saoirse had done them she would now be set for life financially (barring financial screw-ups) and be a much more widely known actress with a couple of massive earning films to her name (and in Hollywood that matters).

None of those roles that she turned down had any cinematic impact at all character wise, so how exactly is that observation not worth much? The majority of her small films have allowed her to meet with people that then suggested her for further films down the line (OCB).
Furthermore, she has now reached the age (and through the exposure of Brooklyn) to play actual adult aged roles. She doesn't need to take part in action-hero blockbusters in order to make a bigger name for herself; bigger parts will come as she gets older.
Also, you can rest assured there was no meltdown here. I was simply making an observation based on the majority of the content in your posts. -

So I know some of you might feel anxious that Saoirse might not be receiving the attention and getting the spotlight that she deserves, meanwhile less accomplished people in her age range such as beep Lily Collins (she gets on my nerves and she even got a freaking book deal) or the supporting cast in Taylow Swift's squad get all the attention. Well, that is irrelevant. A film career is a marathon, not a sprint. And1c84 even though Saoirse is a one-in-a-generation distance runner, she already has two Oscar nods. At 22. And they would've been three so far if Peter Jackson had pulled his head out of his own ass when making
The Lovely Bones
. It's not that she will be fine, when Cate Blanchett pretty much has designated you as her artistic daughter-heir, when Helen Mirren is grannying you, when Jodie Foster is cool-auntying you, it means that she's going places. She doesn't need a blockbuster now and she will be fine without them for now. It wouldn't hurt if she were to be cast in one, it will certainly raise her profile, but she is getting there surely. And once again, she is just 22.
That being said, let's take a look at the blockbusters she missed out on:- Hobbit trilogy: There was one prominent female character in the trilogy, played by Evangeline Lilly. Does anyone remember what her role was? Was it anywhere as prominent as Arwyn's? The movies were commercially successful but mediocre, disappointing most fans. Not a good thing to be associated with.
- Scarlet Witch in the MCU: Sure, it is a big role. Elizabeth Olsen is becoming a household name. But can anyone here, in all honesty, say that Scarlet Witch is character that 'shines' on her own? So far, she has mostly been a plot device in the MCU. Maybe her role will grow in the future, but she is always in the shade of Black Widow.
- Anna Karenina: Kitty, at least in the novel, is one of the least interesting and less prominent female characters. She's just there to be pure and pretty. She did well passing on it, and I have a guessing it's because she doesn't want supporting roles anymore, unless it is in an ensemble film (like Wes Anderson's). And it can't be said that Kitty was Alicia Vikander's breakout role, that was
A Royal Affair
. - Star Wars: In her own words, everyone is auditioning for them, and in the spirit of the originals, the producers prioritized cating an unknown as Rey. But yeah, I really hope she gets cast in one of the anthology movies to come (coughreplaceEmiliaClarkeintheHanSoloonebecauseshe'smediocrecough).
- That Order of the Seven movie: This movie was announced when all those Snow White adaptations came around. Disney pulled the plug for now, but see below why I think it's not dead yet.
But here's one thing to keep an eye on: If
On Chesil Beach
replicates the success of
Brooklyn
(grossing somewhere between 35M and 50M WW), if
Lady Bird
does anywhere as well as
Frances Ha
(between 5 M to 10 M WW) and if the Mary Queen of Scots movie does as well as the
Elizabeth
movies (upwards of 60 M WW), then she would become a rarity among rarities, an actress that can 'open' mid-budget films into sleeper hits, based on her performances and movie presence alone, which is the case of both
Hanna
and
Brooklyn
(and if I'm correct, I've heard that
How I Live Now
and
Byzantium
are on their way to become cult hits). I think it's something that might very well happen in the next few years, and it's a very enviable position. I mean, she is still going to become one of the top stars of her generation, she will win awards and Vogue covers and fandom even if these movies don't do well, but if I am anywhere near correct, she could be on her way to a steady type of bankability that very few actors (think of Denzel Washington, Emma Stone, Meryl or -soon- Amy Adams) can attest to, not even JLaw can. And it puts her in a great position to negociate salaries when time comes to star in a franchise-blockbuster thingy.
And also, she will most likely be offered a part in one of the upcoming Disney live action adaptations. I think it will probably be Snow White, and something interesting will come of it.
Anyway, I'm still looking forward to seeing her having a role in the next Mad Max movies. And the upcoming Top Gun sequel (female characters in latter Tom Crusie movies have been AMAZING).

There was one prominent female character in the trilogy, played by Evangeline Lilly. Does anyone remember what her role was?
I remember her being a fierce warrior and falling in love (unconsummated) with a character not her own kind. That's about it.
There was a discussion here some years back focusing on the issue of supporting vs. lead roles. I'm sure everyone is fine with her taking supporting roles, but she has clearly chosen lead or co-lead parts for many years now. I think it's great actually.
She has targeted roles that are challenging and interesting, the ones having a bit of depth to them. It's just a matter of time until she lands something in a big commercial film. It'll be fun and different for us, and perhaps she'll receive much more exposure as a result.
In the meantime, I'm perfectly happy antici5b4pating her prestige projects that'll hopefully land her more award attention.
