Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Gavin DeGraw

    Lasirenn — 16 years ago(October 08, 2009 09:07 AM)

Here's a short interview from the WallStreet Journal from a couple of weeks ago. Wow, ever since his second album he's just been cranking out music! I'm still enjoying 'Free', but I can't wait to hear new stuff from him.
In a boon for the National Parks Conservation Association, last nights event in Central Park warded off the expected rain and thunder and attracted talent instead. The celebration, which honored documentarian Ken Burns upcoming PBS film, The National Parks: Americas Best Idea, saw Gavin DeGraw, Alison Krauss, Carole King, Counting Crows and Peter Yarrow come out to perform and support the cause. Tom Kiernan, the president of NPCA, told us that the parks have another star to thank for his support: Barack Obama, who toured Yellowstone earlier this summer with the family. Speakeasy caught up with singer and songwriter Gavin DeGraw after he stepped off the green carpet.
The Wall Street Journal: Were sure youre deluged with requests for these types of functions. Why did you agree to perform at this one?
Gavin DeGraw: Im a New Yorker, and I appreciate getting away from the mania like everyone else. Central Park is the only place where you can come kick off your shoes and get away. Theres something to be said for national parks and incredible landscapes.
Okay, so after you hang out in the park lets say you throw a dinner party. Who are the top three people youd invite? Dead or alive, and they can be fictional.
Smokey the Bear, General Patton andJesus. I think theyd get along well. Also Id want to see if Smokey the Bear uses utensils.
Well he talks, right? So presumably hed use utensils.
He might want to get back to his roots.
Fair point. And Californias still on fire so we guess hes busy.
Id like to arrange a meeting with him.
Sing to him onstage. But first tell us a little about your end-of-the-evening moves. What song do you break out?
Lets Get It On. I sing quieter and quieter in her ear, so shes forced to get closer to me to hear it. But I dont want to tell you about any more of my cheap sexual tricks. I talk too much. I use more mouth than ears.
Which song are you singing tonight?
Chariot. I only get one so Im going to stretch it out as much as possible.
Any artists you would commit illegal acts to see or work with?
Yes, definitely. Colbie Caillat, James Morrison, John Mayer.
We have to end with one clich question, so whats your favorite place youve toured?
Rome. I saw everything I learned about.
Sort of like 10th grade world history, yeah? Are you a reader as well?
Im into history. WWII, Vietnam, pre and post-colonial America.
Awesome. Try The Things They Carried.
When can we expect another record from you?
Probably around six months. Im in my writing mode.
The National Parks: Americas Best Idea airs in six segments, with the first beginning on Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m. on PBS. Gavin DeGraw will be performing next at a benefit in Charlotte.

That's great news! I read about it when this article came out. I thought that Gavin was supposed to go on tour in November, but I guess he chose to do another record instead. I'm excited for it!
