Do people really love his food from his restaurants? Or is it that he just has a colourful personality and he's popular. I'm just asking cos I have no idea.

He has like 22 Michelin stars, you don't get those from being popular.

That's surprising to me. I mean, he doesn't really seem like a top quality chef. More like someone who runs a hotel pub or a prison kitchen or something. But he does have fancy restaurants and michelin stars..

That's because you only know him from the exploited bombastic attitude that makes him popular in America, if you wa111ctch his UK shows he far less irritating, and more normal.

No, he now has 14 stars. His Manhattan restaurant was stripped of two stars shortly before your response.

Well, keep in mind, his first exposure2000 to TV, was a documentary, in which he was trying to make his restaurant from a two Michelin star to a three Michelin star place. Gaining one star is hard enough, getting two, is well above average, and he was trying to make it into one of the elite spots in the UK.
There are only 4 restaurants in all of the UK with three Michelin stars. One is his. His personality, made him great for TV. But it was his ability to run an elite restaurant, that got him on TV in the first place.
And, one of his places, has lost a star since his rise to fame.
