Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Teena Marie

    PurpleLemonadeDinosaur — 15 years ago(December 27, 2010 08:30 AM)

Last night I was about to go to bed when my mother told me Teena Marie died and people were putting R.I.P. Teena Marie on their Facebook. At first I was shocked and my mouth was agape for several seconds. I thought it was just a rumor so I frantically searched for my cell to investigate it. There were twitter posts about it and I still didn't believe it. I just assumed it was speculations. Then I was pissed because my mom woke me up to tell me my all time favorite singer died and I couldn't sleep after that. I wanted to cry because I knew all of her songs and had all of her albums on my iPod. But I knew it'd be ridiculous because I knew she wasn't someone I knew personally, so I prevented myself from crying. For the rest of the night I listened to her music and thought about her daughter since it was right after her birthday. I couldn't believe Lady T was dead because she just wished her daughter a happy birthday on twitter the day before she passed away. I mean, she was just tweeting the other day! How could this even happen? I'm only 16, but I appreciated her music. Aladdin's Lamp cheered me up freshman year when I was depressed and she and Mariah Carey influenced me to write songs. At least she's getting more recognition now so everyone can now know how great and talented she was. She'd be greatly missed.
