I was lucky enough to see the Spice Girls last show in Canada and i'm going to start by saying it was AMAZING. You really understand why we had 'Spicemania' in the 90s and why none of the british girl groups around now like Girls Aloud or the Sugababes can't replicate it. Well each of the numbers they performed were brilliantly performed with Ginger back in the union jack dress for 'Who Do You Think You Are'. And I'm so glad they decided to keep 'Holler' and 'Let Love Lead The Way' as a four piece. And when 'Wannabe' came on you could barely hear the girls singing because everyone was so desperate to join in. The only thing i wasn't to keen on was the ending of 'Spice Up Your Life' it just seemed to lose some of the energy that the original had and the opening had. 'Too Much' worked surprisingly well as an up-tempo number. 'Headlines' seemed alot better in the gig and they really should've released the single this way and it would've made it alot higher in the charts. I really wished that they would've performed 'Never Give Up On The Good Times' instead of 'The Lady Is A Vamp' beacause it just prefer it simply. I can't deny that when '2 Become 1' came on i felt a sudden rush of nostalgia because i never understood it when i was younger and always thought of it as just a beatiful ballad, not the subtle sexual hints. Now onto the girls themselves. Victoria completely stole the show. Every note that came out her mouth could barely be heard from the roar met by the crowd. When she came to do her solo section i can see why she chose to do the catwalk run to show people that shes not in the music industry anymore and in fashion. But COME ON. Shes constantly critised for not being able to sing and when she gets the chance to show millions of people that, in fact, she can she decides to give the Posh-haters more fuel for their fire. Now i know she can actually sing just as well as other girls(excluding Mel C) because of acoustic performances ive seen on YouTube so i can't understand why she chose not to. Geri is probably the only girl that still seems to have the same personality and spirit that she did ten years ago. When the girls were performing or talking to the crowd you can really see that she still is Ginger Spice and really meant the things they were singing about. Mel B to me didn't really seem like Scary Spice anymore she seemed to be Scarier Spice. When she was singing 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' all i can say is that i really felt for the poor guy she dragged up onstage. But you do feel that the Mel was really trying to get back into Scary Spice and it worked, just a little to well. Same with Emma she wasn't Baby Spice anymore, but lets be honest if it wasn't slightly wrong for a 20 something girl to be prancing about in pig tails and babydoll dresses theres definitely something wrong with a 30yr old mum to be doing it. I got the feeling she was trying to say' Yeah i'm still Baby Spice but im grown up now' which worked well for me. Now onto Mel C. She certainly hasn't lost her touch. If Posh hadn't been around she would've stole the show. She still nailed all her solo parts and has definitely matured her voice. when she sang 'I Turn To You' her voice hit the roof. She didn't need back up singers or dancers she completely owned the stage. She still managed to keep us all feeling like she was still Sporty Spice, albeit a diluted version, even though her tracksuits made scarce appearances. Overall one of the best gigs ive been to and the Spice Girls must be the greatest female group perfomers, not the greatest singers but their sheer energy and enthusiasm makes up for that ten fold.
