Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Paris Jackson

    mooche306 — 16 years ago(July 08, 2009 11:47 AM)

I applaud Paris for having the courage to say something on that podium in front of millions of people. Anybody have any doubts as to Michael's parenting skills, the proof was right there in that speach she gave. I sure hope she listens to what Al Sharpton said: "Ain't nothing strange about your daddy, it was strange what your daddy had to deal with."

She shouldn't of been in front of millions of people to begin with! Her father's funeral shouldn't of been a private event for family and friends. And her tears and statement should have been a private moment. It's ludicrous that they had her do that.
It also shows how little Michael's family actually cared about him. One of Michael's wishes and dearest issues was the privacy of his children. He was very devoted to that issue. And then his family has his daughter go up in front of millions of people in something should never been public to begin withthat whole family is a wacko.
Y'know everyone has been liking to build up Michael as something of a god. Truth is he was a great singer, dancer, and performer, ut you know, he's not Jesus people. He was just a man. Like any man, he had issues. Al Sharpton said, "Ain't nothing strange about your daddy" Yes there is, it doesn't matter what he had to deal withit doesn't ch16d0ange the fact that he was strange. "it was strange what your daddy had to deal with." Indeed, a shy person being thrust upon stardom and fame at such a young age as well as an incredibly abusive fatherit's gonna lead to some problems. However, like I said, everyone has issues and you have to find a way to deal with themhe obviously did NOT deal with them well.
Al Sharpton also said that the kids would be with the world's best grandmother. Well, I'd hope to think sobecause she certainly was a lousy mother. To think, that you have that many kids and their all screwed up. Either a little (Janet and Jermaine) or a lot (La Toya and Michael). I know it was Joe, but she could of left him and protected her children at any time.

Actually they did have a private funeral before the big memorial. Paris wanted to go up and say something. They didn't force her too. Joseph Jackson didn't abuse his children like you think they were. That was in different times and they're way of abuse is not the same as it is now.
The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart.

                  Wow.
First of all, Paris, Prince, and Blanket were gonna be in the spotlight regardless of their father's living state. She's the daughter of Michael freaking Jackson. She and her older brother have plans to be in the entertainment industry when they get older. And plus, before Michael died, we already knew what they looked like.
Second of all, there was a private funereal for close friends and family hours AND the day before the memorial. It made perfect sense for the PUBLIC memorial to take place for a PUBLIC figure who had millions of fans all over the2000 world who adored him and he loved them just as much as his "friends". No one made Paris say what she said. If you ever watch the entire video of Marlon and her speaking at the end, you could hear Marlon say "I think Janet wants to say something". Janet says "No, Paris wants to say something." As they're lowering the mic for her, you can see Randy ask her "Are you sure you want to do this?" And she says "I have to tell them about my daddy" (or something like that). She was incredibly brave to humanize her father in front of millions. I'm sure her father would've been extremely proud.
Third, Michael was not just a signer/performer. People fail to forget that he was an incredible humanitarian. No he wasn't Jesus (who was "just a man" too) but he tried his best to pass on the message of Jesus and he a heart similar Jesus. He didn't have the power to heal, but he tried his best to bring happiness to everyone he knew. I do disagree with Al Sharpton's "Nothing strange about your daddy" quip. Michael was strange. But the media and the rest of society try to make strange out to be a bad thing. Strange is beautiful. It means you're different. It means you're your own person. It means you're not boring. It means you're not conforming to society's unwritten rule book.
Fourth, Katherine Jackson is a great grandmother. She's strong, she's sweet, and she's 100% committed to her family. She's a matriarch. This is what she knows. And who are you to call her a lousy mother? How are her kids screwed up? So you're saying victims of media bias, extortion plots, domestic violence andI don't know how you think Jermaine is screwed upyou're saying they need to be in insane asylums? It doesn't change the fact that she raised great people.
Finally, Joe Jackson gets treated a little unfair. Yes, he's fame hungry and he's an beep and I'm sure he doesn't have any coffee mugs that read "World's Greatest Dad" on them but I very seldom hear the credit that he deserves. And Katherine knew exactly what he was doing. Back then (and probably still to this day) Gary, Indiana was not a great place for young black boys/men. It's a poor city and it's a very dangerous city. Had Joe not did what he did with those boys and the rest of that family, Michael probably would've been working at some steel mill, working in someone's street gang, hanging around in someone's prison, or deadsooner than June 25, 2009.
My plumbing is all screwed up. Because it turns out, I do not own a garbage disposal.

Ok first of all Katherine Jackson is a great mother. She tried her hardest to protect those kids and while she was at home cooking and cleaning her husband was living it up with the boys and beep girls in hotels how do you think that made her feel? and second of all you need to remember it was the 1950's back then. If she would've divorced Joe

                          1. it would be scandolous
                          2. not to mention she would be sinning against god as she was very religous. 3. where would she go exactly? She would be homeless and penniless with eight kids on the streets
You need to put yourself in her shoes before you judge. I think she did the best she could in a bad situation.
as for you talking about Michael you only need to listen to Al Sharpton's speech to realise why he is "treated as a god". If it wasn't for Michael black people would not be shown on MTV. he helped black people have the opportunity to become stars. Before he came along black people didn't have the opportunity cos of there colour. Not to mention all the records he broke. His concerts sold out in minutes, he sold the most albums ever. He also is one of the most charitable men on the planet.
Yes he was weird. I'm not saying he wasn't but he was also a kind, caring, talented man who just wanted to help anyone and everyone and suffered a lot in his short life.
Finally about the Paris thing. She WANTED to go up there and speak and any child phycologist will tell you that it is good for a child to get up there and say there piece and say goodbye if they want to. She was not forced up there. There was a private funeral for MJ the night before his public memorial and on the morning of it as well. There will be another one when he gets buried so I don't see the harm in having one public memorial especially for someone so loved worldwide.

For Paris to get up there, and speak about her dad, I say that took alot of heart, class, and guts to say what she had to say about Michael Jackson! Speaking as someone who lost his father(albeit under different circumstances, and although she, and her brothers are much younger than I was when my dad passed), I know exactly how they feel!
as for you talking about Michael you only need to listen to Al Sharpton's speech to realise why he is "treated as a god". If it wasn't for Michael black people would not be shown on MTV!!!
Superstargirl818, you are so on point!! Gladys Knight once stated that the heads of MTV told her that there would be no Black performers/videos on MTV!
So Michael is basically responsible for breaking down the color wall that MTV set up.
Now, as far as Katherine is concerned, I understand why Michael chose her to be his kids guardian, but I always figured that Janet would be the most likely person to name as guardian (considering the fact that she, and Michael were so close, and that Katherine is 80-years-old, while Janet is 43)!

I did not think so at the start but then many people commented online that this crying was fake.
So I re watched it. I cannot see tears, no redness of the eyes or nose, no changes to her face.
But who would tell a 11-year old to fake it?
What kind of people is she surrounded by?
Michael was not a fake person, he was lovely.

Fake or real, it's not entertaining. It's the same level of creativity than the Janet Jackson superbowl incident.
