Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Emily Blunt

    RushmoreLatinClub — 10 years ago(October 05, 2015 07:40 AM)

How well are American actresses with fake British accents received in your country? Are they embraced and earn millions of pounds and receive awards for taking leading roles in your British television programs and movies?
Emily Blunt is a greedy little twit. She doesn't deserve American citizenship. Perhaps she should seek employment back home if she's too embarrassed about becoming an American. she should be more embarrassed that she did it for greed. There are plenty of talented American actresses that need work here. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

She can renounce citizenship anytime. I just feel it is such a slap in the face to those willing to die for this country's opportunity, which she so easily takes for granted. Americans are sick of being taken advantage of by people whom reap all the benefits and then complain about it. Meanwhile, thousands are patiently waiting for their chance to come here legally. I wonder how she looks her immigrant nanny and housekeepers, gardeners, waitstaff in the face without feeling ashamed for her flippant remarks about citizenship.
I am really curious if the british respect American actresses that portray british roles the way we Americans celebrate EVERYONE in hollywood. I mean, we don't think twice about a Brit with a phony accent playing an American FBI agent. Ms. Clunt should feel very blessed to have a career here.

Americans playing Brits is the most annoying thing. There seems to be a stereotype that all Brits are posh and live in the seventeenth century or they are all cockney which is mainly backed up by American actors

You sound like a pissed off Republican. First off, it was just a joke, which some ppl can't seem to handle anymore becuz they are babies. Also, she's not embarrassed about becoming American. She said that maybe she made a mistake becoming a citizen after seeing the Republican debate. And what sane person wouldn't after seeing that freak show? She has nothing to apologize for & there are ALOT of Americans that agree with her too.

Wow, I didn't realize she had taken US citizenship.
I left the US in 1990 and have never been back. I was just happy to 1c84escape the place and would rather die than return. I did my 8 years in the US Army- my service to the country of my birth is complete and they have no claim on me except my tax money until the day I die.
It's always a head-scratcher to me when someone actually wants to go there and become a citizen but To each her own.
As far as whether she deserves it or not
I would say that a lot of people who are actually born with US citizenship don't deserve it. Anyone who is racist, for example, is pretty much opposed to what the USA is supposed to be about. That would eliminate many people in my own biological family right there- and you know, good riddance on that account.
I'm sure she's no better or worse than millions of other United Statesians.
