Yes I definitely agree. I've seen a few of his shows and they're all very pleasant and mellow to watch and listen to. Quite a stage presence. Live in Tuscany is being broadcast again on the night of October 3rd. If I'm home I'll be certain to watch it again.

This program aired here in Los Angeles last night (12/02/04). I normally don't care for this kind of "pop" interpretation of classical music-flashy showmanship parading out the same overly sappy Romantic era tunes in an overly sugary fashion. I was expecting a somewhat more elevated version of something Yanni would do.
I was happily suprised. The playing was first rate and had a thoroughly great time viewing this program. Most stunning was the interaction between the audience and the performers. It was very evident they were exchanging energy and enthusiasm in a very palpable way. I was very moved by images of audience members expressing their feelings towards the music and the evening with their embraces, their applause, their smiles, and their tears.
I will look forward to other perfromances by Andre Rieu in the future. If you have the chance to catch LIVE IN TUSCANY, do so. If you're a fan of music or have an ounce of warm blood, you'll be glad you did. -

I love andre rieu, he is amazing, and one of the most amazing violin players/muscians ive seen. How many 16 yearold girls will take classical concert tickets over clothes. i dont think many. im more then willing because he is so amazing.

I am only sixteen but I feel this interpretation of classical music would get more young people interested in listening to classical music. If I saw this kind of performance every time I attend a concert I would go to more concerts.

I fully agree, Mambo. When I first "discovered" him, I, too, was channel-surfing one evening sometime late last year, trying to find something to watch on television. It was about quarter past the hour when I went by the channel, heard just a snippet of the music as I sailed past - and went right back to it. For the next hour and 45 minutes, I didn't move, I didn't look away from the screenand I could scarcely breathe. Never before had I ever had music "move" me like that. It touched my soul in a way that I can't even begin to describe. More than once during the broadcast of the concert ("Live in Tuscany"), I had tears in my eyes. The station (a local PBS station) had an "encore" performance of it afterwards, and I watched it clear through. I've watched it numerous times since then; I watch it every time I come across it - including yesterday evening, when my husband happened to catch it (while channel-surfing!) just as it was coming on, and called out to me (in the bedroom) that it was on; I rushed out to sit down and watch it again. And I enjoy it just as much now as I did the first time I saw it - and some of the music
still
brings tears to my eyes, especially "The Rose". My husband bought the DVD for me as a Christmas gift last December, and it's already gotten a lot of use, as well!
What's even more incredible: this past February, I found out that Andre Rieu is going to be performing in concert here in WA, in Seattle, on December 11th. So, my husband went ahead and bought tickets for myself and his mother to see the performance, as an "early" Christmas gift for me! (He likes the music, just not enough to go along.) And I'll tell you, I can't
wait
to see Andre Rieu and his orchestra! I'm even planning on buying myself a special outfit just for the occasion! I think the only thing that I've ever looked more forward to was my wedding! laughs

Glad to hear you also enjoyed Andre Rieu. He is quite a showman AND musician despite what some posters consider his level of talent. I bought my wife six of his DVD's thru Amazon.com at 14 US$ - 22 US$ each and the shipping was free. I think his entire DVD catalog plus some CD's are available at Amazon.
"Anere Rieu - The Flying Dutchman" might be the best as far as the range of musical presentations and theatrics.
He will soon be coming to Houston, Texas this spring (2006) after completing hs overseas and West Coast US schedule. Wouldn't be surprised if he showed up wearing a Cowboy hat and played "Waltz across Texas" or "Cotton-Eyed-Joe".
