Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Alicia Keys

    clusterc5 — 15 years ago(June 02, 2010 09:32 AM)

I read somewhere that Alicia (early on in her career) was asked why she wore braids and she answered with something like 'it was to make people ignore her beauty and see her as less pretty' or something like that?
I think this might have been in a Black Magazine (like Vibe or Ebony) interview
    Can anyone confirm this?

That's awesome if she said that. Go Alicia. Such a strong woman with many talents.

Wearing braids didn't cover her beauty. Her singing and playing the piano revealed her beauty that wasn't just on the outside- but she is beautiful on the outside as well.
