OLD HORSE TALE FULL OF SADNESS

ANOTHER case of an ailing celebrity senior citizen at the mercy of squabbling children is heading for headlines. In the ?50s comedian Alan Young won an Emmy for ?The Alan Young Show.? In the ?60s he starred in the CBS-TV series about a talking horse, ?Mister Ed.? In the ?80s he divorced his wife of 43 years and a dozen years ago married his one-time Sunday school pupil.
He isn?t running hot financially. When last we spoke, he told me: ?I own a percentage of the ?Mister Ed? profits but it?s an impossible situation. Three producers were co-owners. Two are dead. Their estates had no children. The third has it mired in difficulties. I wish I could share in some of it. I could use it.?
It would appear his three grown children would like to use whatever there is. Now in his upper 70s, living in California, occasionally experiencing in-and-out judgment instability, Young requires care. I know his daughter Wendy Dale Young, a teacher of special-needs children. I know she?s watched over him since ?97b68. I know she?d been his conservator and executor. I know that even longer she?s tended her mom, who has dementia.
But she and her siblings don?t see eye to eye over their father. Distraught, Wendy says: ?My brother was away for a while. Then he came back. Daddy suddenly said I was stealing from him . . . [and that] I?d been in his bank and taken $30,000.
?Three years ago Dad stopped talking to me. When he did see me again . . . I?d been removed as executor. There?s the feeling a business manager might have been involved, but all I know is I don?t know what?s happening with my father.?
I cannot unravel this by phone. I live here. The wrangle is out there. Gov. Schwarzenegger, this is your territory. Look into the situation. Take care of your people. -

This is very interesting stuff. I did not know any of it.
I presume the one-time Sunday School pupil was Virginia McCurdy. That is, if any of this is true.
I called Alan1c84 today and told him I love him. He is a sweetheart.
