The two examples that come to mind are Sling Blade and Panic Room. Anyone know what he's like in real life?

According to an ex-girlfriend of his, former MTV DJ, Duff, he is a man of "sterling character."
He's greatly admired by people in both the music and film industry. I think his ability to be able to play such good dark characters (did you see him play the Sheriff in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada?) is a testament to his talent as an actor.

To play great a-holes like he does requires the understanding of the human heart that an award-winning country music song writer with several decades of success has.
I don't know him in real life, but he won my respect by playing Doyle in Sling Blade. That was some superb acting.
His new character on The Dome has the same feel so far.
It's unfortunate, in some ways, that Dwight has such flare for playing ignorant, dim-witted, violent jerks. Waitthis is different. Lyle isn't ignorant or stupid, just misguided and nuts. He does kinda seem like a jerk, though.
I think it highly unlikely that Dwight is anything but the exact opposite.
I'd love to see him in a starring role where he plays a man of great depth and intellect, one with a big heart and the courage of a champion.
Love is like breathing. You have to take some in and let it out to live.

I was wondering, is he underrated as an actor?
