When Falcon Crest was in it's heydayI remember hearing that Jane Wyman was a tyrant on the set and was definitely 'the boss'. Is this true, was she not such a nice lady?

Jane demanded perfection, she had no tolerance for non professionalism. Some of the younger performers on the show complained because she was tough on them, when they messed up she let them know and pointed out what they did wrong. She was the main reason Lana Turner got written off the show,238 Lana was a bit of a diva she wanted a limo at her beck and call to take her around the set, pick her up in the morning etc.etc. Very old school. She was frequently late Wyman got sick of it and had her canned. Jane Wyman was the main star of the show most days she drove herself to the set. The only time the show got really sloppy was in the beginning of the last season when she suffered a serious liver ailment related to her diabetes and was forced to take a long hiatus. When she came back towards the end of the last season she whipped it back into shape.

The truth is sometimes in the middle. According to designer Nolan Miller, Lana Turner was so caught up in her own diva psychology that she would sit around in her dressing room and miss (or almost miss) live TV cues, ones where there would be dead air if you didn't emerge from your trailer in time.
But some of the actors on FALCON CREST were scared of Wyman, including some of the writer-producers, one of whom said Jane got her fired from the show when her own "hello!" to Wyman one morning wasn't as enthusiastic as Wyman would have preferred.
The most profound of sin is tragedy unremembered.
