Why do people excuse his actions? In fact, I doubt he even cared about Bonnie of anyone for that matter. In episode thirteen, he brings Bonnie's worst threat in her presence, Kai. Can he die? Why does Stefan have to instead?

Yeah he does terrible things even when the humanity is on. But he and Jeremy's killer Enzo have a Get out of Jail Free Card, something Stefan doesn't have.

Listen if Klaus who was the worst vampire ever gets to be forgiven so I gues Damon and Stefan get a break.
I always hated what these show teach the audience "hey boys and girls it's ok to kill and be a monster you can redeem yourself and get a happy ending"
Look at Angel he was so bad got some good moments but decided to go and save the world instead of being with Buffy. That was the right thing to do. Damon probably would just run away with Elena -

Who excuses Damon? This (while existing) message board is full of people, like myself who cant stand the character. The show wanted vampires to be more human then monster but forgot that humans not related to the story still exist in the universe. That girl at the bar just gets murdered by Damon so he didnt have to kill caroline for example. Cade said it himself "she wasnt evil" wth did she do to deserve to die except think she could have a drink in mystic falls? Damon is the worst on TVD but the list of terrible is followed by the rest of the cast with Stephen being a close second.

I couldn't stand him in the show and still can't.
The only reason Elena ended up with Damon is because of the retarded teenage girls that shipped them. The plan was always to have Stefan and Elena as endgame.
I honestly think they were in competition with Pretty Little Liars to see who could drill their show into the ground the hardest. VD won when their lead character quit the show. Her scenes at the end of the series were cringe af too because she was away for so long and lost that feel of the show/characters. Her acting went to ****. -
