Something called life, marriage, a child and some little industry called Broadway kept her away from films plus, in all honesty no one knew what to do with her in films. Back then, no one really thought of her as just an actress, but a musical performer. Sad, but true. It wasn't until she passed her dancing days that she started finding work as just an 'actress' and no longer the musical performer.
She could have been one phenomenal character actress if given the opportunity. Too late now.

That isn't the whole story. She said that when she made Damn Yankees Bob Fosse wanted the director to get a close up shot of her for one scene and he refused based on the fact that he felt she was too ugly. He said this right in front of her, so Gwen was soured off movies until she got older.
She was to make a movie version of Redhead (The 1959 Bob Fosse broadway show she starred in) in 1960, but decided instead to start a family with her new husband Bob Fosse.
Unfortunately none of her other performances were captured on film but you can see footage of Gwen doing Brass Band and I'f My Friends Could See Me Now on a site called bluegobo.com they were taken from the Ed Sullivan Show in 1966 and 1967 respectively.
