I don't watch silent films but I'm just curious. I'm 36 and I know who he was,so I was wondering if others in my age group did, too.
I have a crush on Vic Morrow. 🙂

I remember watching a movie about Valentino while in high school in the 70s and followed him a little but could not see his movies anywhere, so I lost interest. A few years ago I started reading about him and then watched a few of his movies on the TCM network (Turner Classics) and YouTube. I was hooked! What an actor! The Sheik movies and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are wonderful. His movies paved the way for me to watch other silents, and I started watching Chaplin. The ending of his City Lights is probably the best movie I've ever seen. You should really give the silents a try! Findadeath.com has interesting stories and pictures of many in the silent era, and there are forums with people of every age group.

I'm fascinated by the movements of the actors in the silent movies. I know it's because of the film and cameras they used, but it's so amusing, even funny.
I wonder what it was like to see those films when they came out!

I bet it must have been a real thrill since movies were in their infancy. My grandmother played the piano in a silent movie house in Los Angeles when she was a teenager but I don't really know many details. In some of the Chaplin movies I watched from Netflix there were little documentary-type scenes where they showed the premieres and the movie audiences. Funny how much has changed.
I also thought it was interesting to see the facial expressions, etc., in many of the silents. In The Shiek, the look that Valentino gives a woman the first time he sees her could melt your heart!! That's all they had to work with and it was fascinating, just like you said.
I also read that most of the stars back then did their own makeup. I know that Chaplin and Valentino did. I should really watch more of a variety of silent movies, but I rave about the ones I've already seen so much that I show them to my family and then have to rewatch them again.. poor me!

My grandmother tells me some interesting and funny stories about what she and her friends did in the movie theater. They sat in the balcony with the winos and sprinkled the audience below with water from a balloon they popped holes into. Thisd

I'm 22, been reading about him since age 13. :DDD He's very addictive, this Rudy. Have you read Dark Lover?! 😄 This would be a great thread for us to rec books we've read about him!! I also recommend "Madam Valentino", I borrowed it from the public library when I was 15 and I've been looking for it ever since.
