Sadly, I've seen only her debut feature, and am VERY interested in your opinion about her work
Please rate the films you've seen (out of 10, or 4-stars system, or 'from best to worst'), post/add your comments, recommendations, etc. ANY feedback very welcome and much appreciated. Thanks for your participation.
My humble 'impression' (rate) is added.
    Filmography (features only):
    Miss Julie (2014)
    Trolsa (Faithless, 2000)
Enskilda samtal (Private Confessions, 1996, TV*)
    Kristin Lavransdatter (1995)
    Sofie (1992) 7.5/10

      • This TV film was also released theatrically in some countries.

If Bergman style is inviting for you, youll enjoy with "Trolsa" (Faithless). Why? Another story about human nature and psychology, bout feeling, hopes, demons, fear and forgiveness! And, Mrs. Ullmann shines as a director in this project. Yes, this is Bergman script, but Ullmann, for this movie, deserved epithet "poetess behind the camera"!
"Sofie" is average movie for me. Good, but nothing special.
About "Kristin Lavransdatter" one Swede was telling me that movie is enjoyable, one solid adaptation which deals with specific culture, and so on, but this is what he thinks. I still didnt buy/download this movie, so I couldnt give you mine rate.
      End

      Trolsa (Faithless, 2000)
      9
      Sofie (1992)
      7

I think as a director she is very derivative.
Her style is too Bergman-esque without the Bergman charm and nuance.
I've only seen "Faithless", her 2000 film, and it's been deemed her best. But though I found her direction to work, it didn't really excite me. I think also the story/screenplay was very shallow (it was apparently one of Bergman's earliest) and didn't get to develop the characters fully or interestingly. At the 2/3's point, I didn't care about what happened to the characters. Maybe it is also to do with the acting? Though I have to say the woman in it was marvellous. And I can see why she almost won Cannes prize, though Bjork is ten times better.
I was lucky enough to see the film, and then see Liv Ullmann being interviewed live about the film and her career. Its weird that she has so much adoration of Bergman? Like we know he was your lover, mentor and employer, but still he was such a player. I think he's got 20 kids or something to different women. Not condoning him or anything I don't know what I'm saying, but that part is just a little strange to me. And by far I'm not conservative. Maybe it's the conservative side in me rearing its ugly head?
