I think the guy who played Spanky hosted a local TV show that replayed the Our Gang shorts. Too bad it never occurred to Carl to go to KTLA or some station and pitch the idea of him hosting that station's Our Gang shorts. Those things were on a constant rotation on TV through the 70s. They played after school when I was a kid in the Chicago market.
