Whats wrong with mel?

Has he had a stroke ?, he was just on celeb mastermind, and looked awful, his voice was slurred and his facial expressions looked like he had recently had a stroke, the crowd also clapped him more then the rest, and the girl beside him (used to be in hollyoaks was the girl who sang for andrew webber and is on the stage now), gave him a little hug, was shocked to be honest, now either hes had a heavy cold and was concentrating, because he came 2nd in the first round, or he has had the stroke i asked about, any one know ?

(on a serious note, i should think he's okay otherwise info would be easier to find and he wouldnt be on the box tonight, but still) -

read this about mel in hairspray from about a year ago. sounds like his problems were starting then.

I just checked on Wikipedia.
Smith ended up seriously ill in hospital in 1999 after consuming more than 50 Nurofen tablets, the culmination of a growing addiction to the pills. He said at the time that the pressures of film work were a contributing factor, along with a desperate need to ease the pain caused by gout. Partly as a result, he agreed to sell Talkback, but Smith admitted to restlessness: "I said to my wife that I needed to do something to get me out of the house". -

no i checked on wiki earlier but i dont think even that many nurofen would have done that to him - esp having problems 9 years afterwards. i mean, i'm not a chemist so i could be wrong - but we thought it at first it was a stroke, but the cancer thing sounds intriguing
not meaning to sound morbid at all, having had a few relatives and a friend die of cancer and all -

It was he speech that was definitely affected, my friend has a long going battle with cancer in her mouth, nose and throat and has the same difficulty with her speech like Mel appeared to. (obviously to a more extreme level)
I believe it's possibly this, the auidence seemed very aware too, hence the larger applause. -

No it hasn't offended me in the slightest, What I think everyone is most intrigued by is the fact that no-one has mentioned it in the media. -
