I'm able to see his handsome face again! Anyone who hasn't seen him before "Die
Hard" will be in for a treat. "Flower Drum Song" gets shown in rotation on the
channel,so it is nice to see his films like "The Crimson Kimono",which haven't been aired in years. -

Absolutely! I just watched Flower Drum Song last night what a gorgeous, lovely film, and so wonderful to watch so much talent! James Shigeta makes me swoon it's a crime he's not on lists of "classic heartthrobs." TCM also showed Walk Like a Dragon earlier this month; was fantastic to see him in that as well. I've been catching up on a lot of films I'd wanted to see during their monthlong celebration of Asians in film I'm so glad they're doing this and bringing back old favorites and lesser-seen works!

Up in Canada, they didn't air Flower Drum Song when they were supposed to. I was so looking forward to seeing it again. You can imagine my disappointment when The Good Earth came on instead =(

BJ, you're not alone. I dimly remembered "The Crimson Kimono" and was thrilled that TCM revived it. I also remembered him as a trumpet-playing doctor on "Ben Casey." I had hopes of a revival of his film career after "Die Hard", but no such luck. I'm glad he's still working, and I'm not surprised that much of it is one of his great attributes: that deep, flexible VOICE.

And then there's "Cry for Happy" which I'm watching for the first time (TCM) as I type.
A comedy about 4 U.S. Sailors living in a house with 4 Japanese geisha in post-war Japan, I think it came out before "Flower Drum Song." James Shigeta co-stars with Glenn Ford, Donald O'Connor and the ever-irascible Joe Flynn (Captain Wallace 'Leadbottom' Binghamton on "McHale's Navy")
It's almost over and I hope that they show it again sometime so I can tape it as there is some real humour as the sailors fall for the geisha and learn that they were mistaken about the "art of making men happy."
And then there's the Japenese western movie within a movie. Try to catch it if you can: you'll enjoy.
